Our organic mulling spices are synonymous with warmth and coziness. When the weather turns chilly or the holiday season approaches, there’s nothing quite like wrapping your hands around a steaming mug of mulled cider or wine. It’s a hug in a cup, providing a comforting sensation that soothes the soul.

Mulling spices are most often used to flavor red wine or cider. If you love the flavor and have extra on hand, think to yourself: If pumpkin spice can do it, mulling spice can do it too. Grind the mulling spices in a spice (or coffee) grinder, pulsing until finely ground. Then add a bit into waffle or pancake batters, hot chocolate, coffee, cookies, simple syrup for cocktails, or anywhere you’d use pumpkin spice.

Mulling spices have been around for centuries, probably as long as wine itself. In ancient Greece and Rome, they often spiced according to various recipes, in some cases to make lesser quality wines more palatable and in other cases simply because they enjoyed the warmth of a rich red wine with the comfort of exotic spices. It quickly rose in popularity and eventually became treasured for its Ayurvedic properties. Charles Dickens was known to enjoy mulled wine, hence its appearance in A Christmas Carol, a move that forever solidified our association of mulled wine with Christmas.
