"May Contain" statement NEW FOR 2025 (Progressive rollout):

  • In 2025 we will be progressively updating our labels and product pictures with our new label that now include a "May Contain" statement.
  • The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) dictates that "Cross-contamination statements may be declared by food manufacturers and importers".
  • That said, we hold ourselves to much higher standards than the CFIA and Health Canada rules oblige. Most companies do not and you will only rarely see "May Contain" statements.
  • If there is a remote chance that there might be cross-contamination of a priority allergen, we will declare it on the product label in the form of a "May Contain" statement.
  • A "May Contain" statement does not mean that the allergen is present in the product, it is simple a precautionary measure we take to stay the most transparent possible.
  • If an allergen is present in the product, it will be clearly declared in the ingredients.
  • For example our Quebec made flours come from a mill that makes both oat and wheat flours. Since both allergens are present in the mill we automatically declare the possibility of cross-contamination even if all precautionary measures are taken.
  • Only priority allergens are declared in the "May Contain" statement, which are:
    • Cereals & Grains: Triticale, Barley, Oats, Rye, Wheat.
    • Tree Nuts: Almonds, Brazil Nuts, Cashews, Hazelnuts, Macadamia Nuts, Pecans, Pine Nuts, Pistachios, Walnuts.
    • Peanuts
    • Sesame
    • Eggs
    • Milk
    • Soy
    • Mustard
    • Fish
    • Seafood: Crustaceans, Molluscs.
    • Sulphites
  • Priority allergens are decided by government agencies and health boards. To read more on the subject see "Common food allergens - Priority allergens" published by the CFIA.
  • Full CFIA cross-contamination statement explanation "Food allergen cross-contamination (or precautionary) statements".

Our organic barley grass powder is perfect for adding to baked goods, shakes and all your summer drinks. Barley grass, sometimes called barley greens, comes from young barley plants that haven't started making seeds. During this stage of the plant's life, it's full of nutrients that help it grow larger leaves and seeds.

Barley grass is a common ingredient at juice shops and health stores, frequently appearing alongside other greens like kale, spinach, and wheatgrass.

Did you know?

  • Barley grass powder is gluten-free. Even though barley is a cereal grain, before it forms actual grains the plant does not synthesize gluten.

What is the difference between Barley Grass Powder & Barley Grass Juice Powder?

  • As much as their names are alike, they are very different products.
  • Barley Grass Powder is made by dehydrating barley grass and grinding it into a powder. It contains all the nutrients of barley grass and is full of fiber (30% of its weight)! It does not dissolve in water but will rather stay in suspension.
  • Barley Grass Juice Powder is made by pressing barley grass until all the juice comes out. The juice is then dehydrated into a powder. It contains much less nutrients than barley grass powder and typically has no fiber. It dissolves very well in water.

Simple Barley Grass Powder Juice Reciepe:

  • Put 1 1/2 tea spoon of barley grass powder at the bottom of a glass.
  • While stirring with a spoon gently add 3/4 cup of cold water.
  • Add 1/4 cup of juice (Orange & apple are best) stirring well and enjoy immediately.

General Storage Tips:

• Nothing beats vacuum sealing for freshness.
• Store below 15°C and < 65% humidity.
• Store in the dark as light degrades flavors.
• Mason jars make great storage containers.
• Can be frozen to prolong shelf life.
