"May Contain" statement NEW FOR 2025 (Progressive rollout):

  • In 2025 we will be progressively updating our labels and product pictures with our new label that now include a "May Contain" statement.
  • The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) dictates that "Cross-contamination statements may be declared by food manufacturers and importers".
  • That said, we hold ourselves to much higher standards than the CFIA and Health Canada rules oblige. Most companies do not and you will only rarely see "May Contain" statements.
  • If there is a remote chance that there might be cross-contamination of a priority allergen, we will declare it on the product label in the form of a "May Contain" statement.
  • A "May Contain" statement does not mean that the allergen is present in the product, it is simple a precautionary measure we take to stay the most transparent possible.
  • If an allergen is present in the product, it will be clearly declared in the ingredients.
  • For example our Quebec made flours come from a mill that makes both oat and wheat flours. Since both allergens are present in the mill we automatically declare the possibility of cross-contamination even if all precautionary measures are taken.
  • Only priority allergens are declared in the "May Contain" statement, which are:
    • Cereals & Grains: Triticale, Barley, Oats, Rye, Wheat.
    • Tree Nuts: Almonds, Brazil Nuts, Cashews, Hazelnuts, Macadamia Nuts, Pecans, Pine Nuts, Pistachios, Walnuts.
    • Peanuts
    • Sesame
    • Eggs
    • Milk
    • Soy
    • Mustard
    • Fish
    • Seafood: Crustaceans, Molluscs.
    • Sulphites
  • Priority allergens are decided by government agencies and health boards. To read more on the subject see "Common food allergens - Priority allergens" published by the CFIA.

Our organic oat milk powder is perfect milky goodness and is formulated ready-to-drink by simply adding water. It also works perfectly for all your vegan cooking recipes. It can also be added to healthy beverages and smoothies for added creamy flavor.

To prepare simply mix a 10:1 ratio of water to oatmilk powder. This means 100 g of powder to 1 L of water.

By purchasing powdered oat milk instead of premixed you are saving polluting emissions generated by the transport of water as well as all the associated packaging. As a matter of fact our 20 kg oat milk powder when mixed can make 200 kg (200 L) of oat milk.

At a July 2024 pricing of $27.30/kg this translates to a prepared price of $2.73/L while the lowest price found in premixed was $3.67/L. On a 20 kg bag this equals $188.00 in savings! Our oat milk powder also has no added oil (cheap way to make it creamy), flavours, salt, or gums.

How is Oat Milk Made?

  • Oat milk starts off as whole oats that are soaked in water and blended into a paste.
  • Enzymes are added (amylase in ours) to break down the complex carbohydrates (like starch). This is what makes the oat milk sweeter to taste than the oats themselves. Since oats consists of around 50-60% starch, and this starch acquires a gelatinous texture when blended or heated, enzymes breaking down starch also helps to create a smoother and creamier texture than if you were to simply blend oats with water.
  • The mix is then strained through a special filter that looks like cheesecloth. The oat pulp is left behind and the milk is dehydrated into powder.
  • Then tocopherol (Vitamin E), which is a powerful antioxidant is added to fortify the mix. In oat milk, the lower bioavailability of calcium due to absorption by oxalate and phytase and insoluble calcium phosphate causes problems. So calcium chloride is added to boost the calcium content to a reasonable level.

General Storage Tips:

• Nothing beats vacuum sealing for freshness.
• Store below 15°C and < 65% humidity.
• Store in the dark as light degrades flavors.
• Mason jars make great storage containers.
• Can be frozen to prolong shelf life.
